Do you want to keep up with everything that’s happening in your nation?
But it’s difficult at times to be among the first to know what’s going down politically, socially, locally, and internationally when you’re busy, don’t have a subscription to the paper, and don’t have access to cable (news stations), satellite, or high speed internet.
You may also be having a difficult time sifting through the extremist, fake news world shared often on social media.
Hold up, I got you. I get it; it’s easy to fall out of the stream of knowledge today. But it’s also easy to get back into it. Here, I’m posting all the links to some of the more reliable kings of the news world via social media.
All these organizations post stories directly from their websites and physical publications. They are among the most accurate and professional in the news world.
(this one is purely political news) – https://www.facebook.com/washingtonpostpolitics/?fref=ts
https://www.facebook.com/HuffingtonPost/?fref=ts (there are more for the UK, Germany, and other countries, but this covers mostly American-related news)
(CNN also has a purely political news page) – https://www.facebook.com/cnnpolitics/?fref=ts
(And a purely international news page) – https://www.facebook.com/cnninternational/?fref=ts
@nytimes – https://twitter.com/nytimes
@washingtonpost – https://twitter.com/washingtonpost
@HuffingtonPost – https://twitter.com/HuffingtonPost
@CNN – https://twitter.com/CNN
They also have a specific one for breaking news only – @cnnbrk – https://twitter.com/cnnbrk
And for politics – @CNNPolitics – https://twitter.com/CNNPolitics
Tumblr also has profiles filled with accurate news stories posted directly from these news organizations’ websites:
This one often posts updates in, from, and affecting the LGBTQ+ community – http://huffingtonpost.tumblr.com/
Also, your state’s news outlets will have Facebook and Twitter accounts. So any papers from your state, or television stations, or radio stations that you know of can be followed on your favorite social media sites. Your university’s paper and stations will also have Facebook and Twitter accounts, and will probably have more than that. My university’s paper has Instagram now as well as Facebook and Twitter.
You can even sign up for email alerts from New York Times, choosing as many as you’d like from breaking news and daily briefs to strictly political news and entertainment. You can even get news updates specifically about racial issues in our nation, and more. Check that out here: http://www.nytimes.com/newsletters
You can choose as many as you’d like, and if you’re a student you can get discounted and free subscriptions to the NYT online. All you have to do is type in your student email.
I actually get most of my news through these emails. I fucking love it.
Stay in the know, as cliche as that is, but it’s so important, especially for us, especially right now.
