10 Things Current Me Needs to Tell Future Me

  1. You’re going to be OK, but you have to admit that you’re not OK right now, and that’s OK.
  2. Be honest with yourself, even if you won’t be honest with anyone else, you can’t lie to yourself. You have to keep at least yourself in the know.
  3. If you lose anyone during this time, it will suck, but you will be OK.
  4. Because you have yourself, first and foremost. Choose yourself, even if no one else will.
  5. That being said, have a little more trust and faith in the person you chose to be with, who also chose to be with you.
  6. Even this is building you into the person you love to be, and who you want to be.
  7. You can, even if you really fucking don’t want to and it’s going to cause you to break down and hate yourself and hate everything and make poor decisions and it will be very painful… But you can.
  8. Stop apologizing for saying how you feel, and certainly stop following up your apologies with self-deprecating explanations.
  9. Stop keeping shit to yourself. Say it, somewhere, anywhere, to anyone who will listen. Write about it on a blog. Who gives a shit if someone doesn’t want to hear it? This is your blog, you have a boyfriend who says he wants to hear what you have to say, you have a best friend in Texas, you have people who will listen. And if no one does, or no one cares, you still need to say it, because you need to listen to yourself, and you care about yourself.
  10. Bust your ass for the life you want, at all costs. It will be the life you want, eventually, but you must be prepared for it to get so much worse before it gets better. Old buildings are torn down violently to the ground before something beautiful is constructed. During that construction, it will look horrid, there will be no insulation, just bare bones and cold, ugly cement. But someday, it will be just what you want it to be. Bust. Your. Ass. At. All. Costs. You might lose everything you have to gain everything you want.
